I am looking for Project Quantity Surveyors / Senior Project Quantity Surveyors / Commercial Managers

looking for candidates who can run their own projects of between £500k and £10m+ you would be likely have either one large project or a portfolio of smaller projects, depending upon skills and project complexity.

You would work under a Senior Commercial Manager or have an assistant working for you, the client can be flexible on the project mix. Their clients are a mix of developer / end users and Main Contractors.

Ideally, you should be familiar with both self-delivery (using the companies own labour and plant) and use of subcontractors including placing sub-contract orders (scaffold, packaged demolition, temporary electrics, tower cranes, labour-only re bar fixing, steel frames, waterproofing etc), although they can support gaps in the skill set if needed, the further along your career path and higher your experience they would expect to have to support less!

The areas that the client work in, and as such we would ideally seek the commercial team to have experience in are the following areas:


Temporary works

Basement excavation and construction

Civil Engineering

Concrete Frame

Structural cut and carve

I appreciate that most candidate will NOT have experience in ALL these areas, so the company can accommodate people who are experienced in only some of these areas.

The roles entail the full range of commercial duties associated with running their own projects, often including a period of Pre-Construction Services (PCSA), a de-rating, soft-strip, demolition contract, basement and groundworks and concluding with a RC basement box and frame. Often after the initial PCSA and Demolition contract the commercial lead for the project is involved with our estimators to support them in the pricing and winning of the follow-on works. The commercial team procure their own sub-contractors but are supported by inhouse buyers for materials and plant. The commercial team prepare monthly client valuations, price and negotiate variations with the client’s PQS or if we are working for a Main Contractor, then the Main Contractor’s QS, measure, value and pay our sub-contractors. The commercial lead would be responsible for reviewing the monthly project costs and preparing the monthly Cost / Value Report and present it to the Senior Leadership Team alongside the Project Manager at the monthly review meeting. If, on the odd occasion we have a dispute then with support from our Managing Surveyor and/or myself they would be involved in resolving commercial disputes on their projects. Depending upon their own experience and project size / portfolio of projects they may have a junior surveyor working with them.

Ideally, have a degree in Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management or similar – obtained on a full or part-time basis.

Circa minimum 5 years, ideally 10 years+ relevant industry experience as a QS.

Majority of the projects are in central London. Our office location Cannon St / St. Paul’s.
