Safety Edition
Before we ‘drill’ down into the matter at hand, you might have noticed that we like to test your sense of humour with a joke we heard recently. This edition’s is a cracker:

See, it was worth a read. But now, let’s test your safety sign knowledge. Will you get all of them?
1) Prohibition signs:
Prohibition signs are pretty straight forward. They are used to indicate activities or situations that are not allowed. These can include signs that prohibit smoking, the use of mobile phones, or the entry of unauthorised personnel. Whatever is in the middle of the circle, put it away.
2) Warning signs:
Warning signs are used to indicate potential hazards or dangers. These can include signs that warn of the risk of falling, the presence of hazardous substances, or the use of dangerous machinery. Keep your eyes out for these, they are warning you for a reason.
3) Mandatory signs:
Mandatory signs are used to indicate actions that must be taken. These can include signs that require the use of protective clothing, the use of specific safety equipment, or the following of specific safety procedures.
4) Safe condition signs:
Safe condition signs are used to indicate situations or conditions that are safe. These can include signs that indicate the location of first aid equipment, fire extinguishers, or emergency exits. Use these as your very own comfort blanket and make a mental note of where they are located.
5) Fire safety signs:
Fire safety signs are used to indicate the location of firefighting equipment and emergency exits. These can include signs that show the location of fire alarms, fire extinguishers, and fire exits.
6) Emergency exit signs:
Emergency exit signs are used to indicate the location of emergency exits. These can include signs that show the direction of the nearest emergency exit, or that indicate the location of the nearest fire assembly point.
7) First aid signs:
First aid signs are used to indicate the location of first aid equipment and personnel. These can include signs that show the location of first aid kits, or that indicate the location of trained first aid responders.
8) Prohibition of dangerous substances signs:
Prohibition of dangerous substances signs are used to indicate the prohibition of certain dangerous substances on a construction site. These can include signs that prohibit the use of toxic chemicals, flammable liquids, or other hazardous materials.
9) Prohibition of smoking signs:
Drop the butt! Prohibition of smoking signs are used to indicate that smoking is not allowed on a construction site. These can include signs that prohibit smoking in certain areas, or that indicate the location of designated smoking areas.
10) Prohibition of mobile phones signs:
Prohibition of mobile phones signs are used to indicate that the use of mobile phones is not allowed on a construction site. These can include signs that prohibit the use of mobile phones in certain areas, or that indicate the location of designated areas where mobile phones can be used. 11) Prohibition of unauthorized personnel signs:
Prohibition of unauthorized personnel signs are used to indicate that only authorized personnel are allowed on a construction site. These can include signs that prohibit the entry of unauthorized personnel, or that indicate the location of designated areas where unauthorized personnel are allowed.
12) Prohibition of dangerous machinery signs:
Prohibition of dangerous machinery signs are used to indicate the prohibition of certain dangerous machinery on a construction site. These can include signs that prohibit the use of certain types of machinery, or that indicate the location of designated areas where such machinery can be used.
These are some of the most used safety signs in construction in the UK. Now all you have to do is pay attention, spot them around the construction site and always do as they say for your own safety.
